Better service, less effort

At this laboratory serving many front line health care services, there was a huge reliance on the skill and experience of the team, hiding the inefficiency and fragility of the processes.

By showing improved performance against a multitude of sample types and locations, the business could be grown, generating more revenue employing more people and even enjoying increased margins.

A 5 day workshop process was created that:

- Reduced maximum Turn around Time in the laboratory to significantly better than next in class.

- Increased capacity to process more samples in existing facilities.

- Reduced the team management burden to allow the leadership to focus on their people and processes.

By restructuring the work, capacity was created to be increasing revenue by >10% while costs remained the same.

The approach of course being read across to its other labs intercontinentally.
